So this past Saturday, Jeryl and I were looking for a spot to do some bouldering. We grabbed a scary-looking but surprisingly tasty egg salad sandwich from an hippie-infested deli and we braved the tick-infested California wilderness in search of the perfect spot. Well, we yondered on past the Sespe, looking for the road to this spot called Pine Mountain that was in some bouldering guide Jeryl had picked up. Quite a piece down the road, we were getting antsy for some climbing or hiking and we realized that to get to this Pine Mountain we would have to turn off on a six-mile-long dirt road. And suddenly the boulders right there alongside old highway 33 started looking sexier and sexier.

To make a short story long, we found a sign for a goat-path-looking trail called Chorro Grande that looked like it wound up to some really cool rocks and caves and whatnot. So we took the trail. The trail actually went the other way, up to this really sweet ridge. Instead of trees ending at the treeline, the desert ended at altitude (maybe 7000 ft), and there were these huge cool evergreens on the ridge with sexy climbworthy boulders set amongst them and a sweet view of the valley. It was muy bueno.

So I have been working construction for a bit. And most of the subcontractor crews hail from the land of our friendly neighbors to the south. Mostly they are pretty cool folk. One thing about these Mexican construction guys, they love them some polka. Basically they listen to polka and mariachi music and that ilk constantly. Those guys can jam on the accordion! It is actually pretty wild. I guess aesthetics don't necessarily translate. But am getting to where I at least recognize some of the songs now even though I'd rather listen to some KTYD or communist propaganda or something. I asked my new buddy Jose what one particular song was about because I keep hearing the song and it keeps sticking in my head. He said it is about some guy getting down on his knee to profess his love for his novia. I thought that was pretty sweet.

Oh, and I asked Jose what 'chorro' means. It means diarrhea. Still trying to figure that one out.
